Nitrogenase is the most crucial enzyme found in the root nodules for fixation. It is a Mo-Fe protein that catalyses the conversion of atomospheric nitrogen to ammonia. Pink coloured pigment called leghaemoglobin creates anaerobic conditions for the functioning of nitrogenase enzyme.
