Which of the following is a quadratic equation?

(a)

$x_{1/2}+2x+3=0$

(b)

$(x−1)(x+4)=x_{2}+1$

(c)

$x_{2}−3x+5=0$

(d)

$(2x+1)(3x−4)=6x_{2}+3$

Correct answer: (c)

Solution:

i) As highest Power is '1' $∴$ not quadratic

ii) $(x−1)(x+4)=x_{2}+1⇒x_{2}+3x−4=x_{2}+1⇒3x−5=0 $

$∴$ not quadratic (higher degree 1)

iii) Highest delrle is '2' $∴$ quadratic

iv) $(2x+1)(3x−4)=6x_{2}+3⇒6x_{2}−5x−4=6x_{2}+3$

$⇒5x+7=0$ ($∴$ not quadratic)
