These forces are produced when a body comes in contact with another body. Various types of contact fone. are explained below. 1. Frictional force : When the surface of one body is made to slide or roll over the surface of another body, a force arises which oppose the motion of the first body over the other body. This is called frictional force. When a wooden block placed on the table is pushed to right, the force of friction acts on the wooden block towards the left. This force opposes the motion of the wooden block [Fig. 3.1]. 2. Tension in a string : When a body is suspended by a long string Fig. 3.1 Force of friction from a rigid support, the weight of body acts vertically downwards. An equal and opposite force acts ie string upwards which balance the weight of the body. This force developed in the string is called the tem-in [Fig. 3.2]. These two forces are equal and opposite in equilibrium position.
