Question
Question asked by Filo student
Consider two masses m which are on a horizontal frictionless surface and joined by a spring of spring constant k and unstretched length. Write the Lagrangian and identify conserved quantities for these three different coordinate systems. (a) Cartesian coordinates (x1, y1) and (x2, y2). (b) Cartesian coordinates for the center of mass, and polar coordinates for the positions relative to the center of mass. (c) Polar coordinates for the center of mass, and polar coordinates for the positions relative to the center of mass.
