What type of precipitation freezes in the upper atmosphere?

The type of precipitation that freezes in the upper atmosphere is snow. Precipitation is any form of water that falls from the atmosphere to the earth's surface. Examples of precipitation include rain, drizzle, snow grains, hail, snow, freezing drizzle, ice pellets, snow pellets, and freezing rain. When water vapor freezes in the upper atmosphere, it falls to the ground as snowflakes. The snowflakes are hexagonal crystals with greater air resistance and lower density than raindrops, causing them to fall more gently to the earth. Interestingly, snow can occur even when the temperature near the ground is above the freezing point. This is because water vapor freezes into crystals at higher altitudes where the temperature is colder. It's amazing to see snowflakes melt just a few inches above the ground!
