Expansion The barred owl historically lived in the eastern United States and the Great Plains was a barrier to the westward expansion of many species including the barred owl. Over time, the climate got warmer and the settlers planted more trees, so the ecosystem of these plains has changed. These environmental changes are causes for the barred owl range expansion to the Western regions of the United States. Questions 1.
