As you are walking to Weasley's Wizard Wheezes to buy a few ton-tongue toffees, a Death Eater walks by you, exposing you to garroting gas. Garroting gas is a highly infectious virus. It infects the epithelial cells in your lungs after you inhale it. Your exposure has caused your lung cells to be infected by this virus, which is now replicating inside those cells.
