The reaction is the Hydration reaction.A material mixes with water in this reaction, which is typically a chemical reaction. A substrate that is unsaturated and frequently an alkene or an alkyne is given water.Industrial processes use this kind of reaction to make isopropanol and ethanol. Other uses of hydration include the creation of Portland cement, which is made possible by the water-induced crosslinking of calcium oxides and silicates. Desiccants also go through the hydration process. Water can be extracted from ethylene glycol at low pressure to generate vinyl alcohol. But under typical circumstances, it becomes unstable and quickly transforms into acetaldehyde. They often occur as intermediates in reactions.
