Answer: Newton's law of gravitation states that the force of attraction between body is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centers.

Mathematically,  

​The acceleration due to gravity (g) is independent of the mass of the falling body.
 Here, is mass of earth and R is radius of earth.
Therefore, the two bricks tied together falls with the same speed as the single one.

Hence the hypothesis of the boy is not correct.
