We know that According to the law of gravitation, the force between any two objects of mass

M

and

m

is directly proportional to their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

F = G \frac{M m}{r ^{2}}

So, if Distance is halved, i.e new

r = \frac{r}{2}

So, New

F = G \frac{M m}{\frac{r ^{2}}{2 ^{2}}}

\Rightarrow F = 4 G \frac{M m}{r ^{2}}

So, Force of gravitation increases by 4 times when distance reduced by half
