The atrial wall of the hear secretes a peptide hormone called the Atrial Natriuretic Factor (ANF).

It is released when the blood pressure increases
It has one major function, to decrease the blood pressure.
It achieves this by two methods; vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and by acting on kidneys to eliminate excess sodium through urine.
Elimination of excess sodium decreases the blood volume and thus reduces the blood pressure.
