RRB NTPC PHASE 2 EXAM: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
RRB NTPC is one the most sought-after exams in India. For 35,277 vacancies, Lakhs of candidates have applied and this in itself highlights the cut-throat competition. The Recruitment Notification has been released for Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) Posts by Railway Recruitment Board (RRB).
UPDATES FROM THE RAILWAY MINISTRY
On 2nd January 2021, Railway ministry of India released the RRB NTPC CBT 1 exam dates for the second phase. The exam will be conducted from January 16 to 30, 2021. Approximately, 27 lakh candidates will appear for the exam.
The 2nd phase of 1st computer-based test will be held from 16/01/2021 to 31/01/2021 for approximately 27 lakh candidates.
Candidates that come under this phase, the link for viewing exam city and date and downloading of free travelling authority for SC/ST will be made available on all RRB websites before 6/01/2021.
E-call letters can be downloaded 4 days prior to the exam date mentioned in the exam city and date imitation link.
All the necessary details have been sent to the candidates on their registered Email and Mobile Numbers.
RRB NTPC SYLLABUS AND EXAM PATTERN
RRB NTPC Exam Pattern
Like most of the Govt. Exams, the exam of RRB NTPC 2021 will be conducted in the below-mentioned steps:
● First Stage of CBT,
● Second Stage of CBT,
● Typing Test (Skill Test)/ Aptitude Test,
● Document Verification
● Medical Examination
The candidates must qualify each stage in order to be eligible for an appointment at the Indian Railways.
RRB NTPC Syllabus 2020Standard of questions prescribed in RRB NTPC syllabus is of Class 10, 12 and graduation levels. The mathematics section comprises questions from Number System, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportions, Percentage, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, etc. The General Intelligence and Reasoning section will have questions from Analogies, Completion of Number and Alphabetical Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Similarities and Differences, Relationships, Analytical Reasoning, Syllogism, Data Sufficiency, etc. General Awareness questions will be from the current events happening in and around the world.

Note: The syllabus is the same for the CBT 1 and CBT 2 but the exam pattern varies in the two exams.
CBT 1 Exam PatternThis phase of the exam is just a screening round and the marks of CBT phase 1 are not included in the final merit list. The normalized score of CBT 1 shall be used for shortlisting of candidates for CBT 2 which will be around 20 times the vacancies. All the questions will be objective in nature, i.e., Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’s).
This exam consists of three sections
● General awareness: 40 questions
● Mathematics: 30 questions
● General Intelligence and Reasoning: 30 questions
While each question comprises 1 mark, there will be a negative marking of 1/3 Marks for every question wrongly attempted. No marks will be deducted for a question left unanswered. Time duration of the exam will be of 90 minutes while PWD candidates accompanies with scribes will be allotted a time duration of 120 minutes
Mathematics:Number system, decimals, fractions, HFC, Ratio and proportion, percentage, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, elementary algebra, geometry, trigonometry, elementary statistics etc.
GENERAL INTELLIGENCE AND REASONINGAnalogies, competition of number and alphabetical series, coding and decoding, number & Alphabet Series, Classification, mathematical operations, similarities and differences, relationships, analytical reasoning, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, puzzles, data sufficiency, statement- conclusion, statement- course of action, decision making, maps, interpretation of graphs etc.
GENERAL AWARENESSCurrent Events of National and International Importance, Games and Sports, Art and Culture of India, Indian Literature, Monuments and Places of India, General Science and Life Science (up to 10th CBSE), History of India and Freedom Struggle. Physical, Social and Economic Geography of India and World. Indian Polity and Governance— constitution and political system. General Scientific and Technological Developments including Space and Nuclear Program of India, UN and Other important World Organizations. Environmental Issues Concerning India and World at Large, Basics of Computers and Computer Applications, Common Abbreviations. Transport Systems in India, Indian Economy. Famous Personalities of India and World, Flagship Government Programs, F1ora and Fauna of India. Important Government and Public Sector Organizations of India etc.
RRB NTPC CBT 2 Exam PatternThis round consists of both a screening as well as the scoring i.e., the marks of CBT 2 will be included in the final merit list. This round decides the merit of the candidate. The candidates will have to secure more marks in order to meet the required RRB NTPC Cut-Off.
The normalized score of CBT 2 shall be used for shortlisting of candidates for Skill Test/ Aptitude Test. RRB NTPC Phase-II will as well have MCQ’s.
This exam consists of 120 questions where
● General awareness: 50 questions
● Mathematics: 35 questions
● General Intelligence and Reasoning: 35 questions
While each question comprises 1 mark, there will be a negative marking of 1/3 Marks for every question wrongly attempted. No marks will be deducted for a question left unanswered. Time duration of the exam will be of 90 minutes while PWD candidates accompanied with scribes will be allotted a time duration of 120 minutes.
SyllabusThe syllabus for the three sections i.e., Mathematics, General intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness is the same as the syllabus of the CBT 1, however one can expect an improvement in the standard and difficulty of the questions.
The normalized marks scored by the candidate in the 2nd stage CBT shall be used for shortlisting the candidates for document verification for the posts which do not have Typing Skill Test/Computer based Aptitude Test. For the posts having Typing Skill Test/Computer based Aptitude Test, the normalized marks scored by the candidate in the 2n stage CBT shall be used for shortlisting the candidates for Typing Skill Test/Computer based Aptitude Test.

Note: in both the CBT 1 and 2 minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories: M R-40%, EWS- 40%, OBC (Non creamy layer) -50%, SC-30%, ST-25%. These percentages of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PwD candidates in case of shortage of PwD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.
Candidates can download RRB NTPC 2020 admit card for CBT 1 phase 1, 2 from the official website of regional RRB. Candidates need registration number and date of birth to download the Admit cards.
EXAM CENTRE AND CITY
The steps to view the RRB NTPC exam city are given below.
● Visit the official websites of 21 RRBs
● Click the link 'Login to view exam city'
● Enter user ID and password
● The details of the exam city will appear on the screen
● Check the exam city and save the details
Note: Candidates could select five exam cities for the exam.
Documents to carry to RRB NTPC exam centre
● RRB NTPC Admit card
● Photo ID (Includes Aadhaar Card, Driving License, Ration Card etc.)
● A passport size photograph
Exam day guidelines for RRB NTPC
● Candidates should reach RRB NTPC exam centre at least an hour before the exam commences
● They must carry all the required documents while appearing for the exam
● Candidates should not carry any electronic gadget inside the examination hall
● Due to COVID-19, candidates need to wear masks.
● For 7th CPC Level 2 and 3 undergraduate level posts, candidates should be between 18 to 30 years.
● The age limit prescribed for Graduate level posts is 18 to 33 years.
Note: Relaxation in age is provided to candidates belonging to the reserved categories.
Educational qualification: For undergraduate posts, candidates must have passed class 12 or 10+2. For graduate posts, candidates must be a graduate from a recognised university.
The exam will be conducted in 15 languages.
