The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE full form), held by the National Council of Educational Research and Training, is conducted every year in India. NTSE is one of the most important exams held nationwide, which helps an aspirant to gain maximum scholarship benefits.

Who is Eligible for Taking NTSE Exams?

NTSE is an offline exam in which students of the tenth standard can easily apply. Students from government schools and private schools alike are eligible for this exam, including students who have opted for Open Distance Learning programs.

Common Criteria to be Eligible for NTSE 2021-2022:

·   Applicants must be 18 years or younger.

·   Applicants should be holding a degree sanctioned by the board

·   The candidates have to be a citizen of India.

We have to note that there are two stages and both have different criteria for eligibility.

Criteria for Stage 1

The candidate:

·   Has to be from a recognized govt or private school

·   Must be of Indian nationality

·   Applicants who have opted for distance learning can also apply.

Criteria for NTSE Stage 2

The candidate:

·   Should have positively qualified in Stage 1 of the NTSE exam.

·   Indian students who study abroad can take the NTSE Stage 2 exam directly, instead of going through Stage 1.

When Does the NTSE Exam Take Place? 

Every year, the exam is conducted once. It has a duration of 4 hours, including 2 hours for SAT and 2 hours for MAT. 

Important stage 1 2022 exam date as well as form date for 2021:

Although the dates may vary for different states, the main application process is done from October to November only, and the first stage of the NTS exam takes place from December to January. Yes. The fee for NTSE registration is usually very less. Depending on different states, the application fee for the NTSE Exam varies.

How to Apply for NTSE Stage 1

The NTSE 2021-22 registration process happens online. Although it can be done straight from the main website of NCERT, many schools provide exam forms in both online and offline mode.

It is the same as filling any other exam form, which needs basic personal details for the candidate. Along with that, the candidate should attach the necessary documents as well. 

How to Apply for NTSE Stage 2

Students need to pass stage 1 to apply for stage 2. There is no registration process. However, the candidate should have a score of at least 60% in class 10.

Indian students studying abroad have to fill up the registration form, which usually is available in February.

NTSE Syllabus and Exam pattern for 2022

The NTSE exam syllabus is divided into two parts- the Mental Ability Test and Scholastic Aptitude Test. The candidates are provided an OMR sheet where each question carries one mark. The total score in MAT is 100 marks and the same applies to SAT.

There are many NTSE scholarships provided for each stage; almost 2000 scholarships are granted each year to students who score good marks in the NTSE Exam.

·       A scholarship of Rs. 1250/- is provided per month for students who are in high school (class 11 and 12)

·       College students who pursue Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses are given a scholarship of Rs. 2000/- every month.

·       For Ph.D. candidates, the scholarship terms and conditions have to be discussed with their respective universities.

What is the NTSE Stage 2 exam?

The exam is divided into two main stages. The students who qualify for the Stage 1 exam can proceed to Stage 2 of the examination.

What is the fee structure of the NTSE exam?

There is no fee for entering Stage 2 of the examination. However, a little fee is charged for Stage 1. This fee can vary from one state to another.

You will have to score according to the cut-off marks released by your respective state, for MAT and SAT. Usually, the cut-off is 35% for SC/ST and 40% for General category students.
