CBSE Class 10th Board Exam – Students Call It “Difficult”!

The Central Board Of Secondary Education or ‘CBSE’ conducted the Class 10th Mathematics paper on December 4, 2021. And according to the majority of students who wrote the exam, the paper was difficult and lengthy.  The question paper this year had three sections – A, B and C. There was no negative marking for wrong questions and each correct question carried 1 mark.  The question paper had a variety of questions including MCQ and case study-based questions. In Section A & B – 16 questions out of 20 needed to be answered. Whereas in section C, 8 questions out of 10 needed to be answered.

Most of the students found the standard of paper to be lengthy. Although many could finish the paper well on time. generally, the paper was rated as moderately tough by the candidates. Meanwhile, the basic math paper was on the balanced side. The majority of the questions were easy. However, case study based questions as well as questions from Coordinate Geometry were a bit tricky.  The teachers and other subject experts also analysed the paper. They called it lengthy & containing too many calculations based questions. According to the teachers, the case studies portion of the paper was not similar with that of sample papers.

CBSE Class 10 Board Exam Reaction By Experts!

Vaman Rao Patil, a Math teacher at JAIN International Residential School (JIRS), Bengaluru said, “The overall difficulty level of the questions was easy to moderate. The questions were based on topics given in Term 1 of syllabus provided by CBSE . Few questions were quite tricky to answer. The questions tested students’ knowledge base, understanding of the concepts, recapitulation, retention capabilities,  logical reasoning, analytical thinking and higher order thinking skills. The paper was challenging which required students to think a lot.”

Parveen Shaikh, Principal of Somaiya Schools. “The math paper is a very well balanced paper. Starting with easily doable questions to boost the morale & confidence of the candidates.  A good amount of weightage has been given to chapters which have continuation in term 2,”

The case study questions were also quite doable since time management in a math paper is always a major concern of candidates. The paper also reinforces the need for concept continuation and spiraling of curriculum as well as  having a strong conceptual understanding,” the Principal added. 

CBSE Class 10 Board Exam Reaction By Students!

 Madhav Drolia, a student of 10th class of JAIN International Residential School (JIRS), Bengaluru, said that “Section A and section C were quite easy to score. Section B was a bit tricky, where questions on Trigonometry and Triangles were really tough to answer. Overall, the question paper was fine but scoring above 80 per cent is challenging,”

Anand Jain, a Kendriya Vidyalaya student said that the basic paper was lengthy plus difficult. “The case study portions were the most difficult section, and the options were also reduced. The sample papers contained 8 out of 10 questions, while in the paper today there were 4 out of 5.”  Moreover, the paper was tricky and time-consuming, and it was difficult to complete the paper within time, the student said.

A CBSE 10th class  student tweeted, requesting the board to stop the evaluation process and release the correct answer key first. Aashish said “if you agree that there can be errors in the question paper or answer keys, you should stop the evaluation process or you should release the correct answer for the students. How can u expect us to prepare for next exams under so much stress?”

Aman Malik, another student, said his studies were affected too much in the last 15 months and he faced poor net connectivity issues during online classes. He said “If schools had not been resumed for physical classes, I wouldn’t be able to get good marks. Offline classes are the best way of being taught. We got little less time to revise the syllabus but it is good that our performance will be reviewed”. 

He further added that “The pandemic has affected our studies negatively and online education has created a great digital divide between us and students studying in big metropolitans.”
