Ever thought of pursuing a double major or earning some extra credit score in university? Or are you planning to complete your graduation early? All this is possible with the Advanced Placement 2022 examinations. It offers university-level courses and exams for students in high school.
What is Advanced Placement?
Created by the College Board, Advanced Placement is a program accepted in the United States, Canada and other international institutions. Many schools offer Advanced Placement courses. But, if your school does not offer AP courses, there is no need to worry. The board allows you to take the exam by yourself; you just have to prepare and appear for the exam at any test centre close to your place.
Why AP Exams?
You might like to take this exam as many colleges and universities in the US, Canada, and other international institutions grant credits or advanced placement based on AP test scores. They recognise qualifying the AP Exam score of 3 and above (on a scale of 5) for credit or Advance Placement. The score is a kind of an assessed certificate to the university that the student has mastered the university-level knowledge while studying in high school.
AP test score opens the gates to many top colleges for a student as their application stands out during the college admission process, though this is not part of the official AP program. The scores are accepted in over 70 countries.
It helps students to prepare for the hard work they need to do while in college. It increases the chances of finishing the degree within four years or less.
AP also helps students to dig deeper into subjects of their choice or that interest them. In addition, students can also earn scholarships to pay their college fees.
When to take Advanced Placement exams?
Students across the world who are in high school can take the Advanced Placement exam to score college credit and earn placement before getting into college.
This exam is a culmination of year-long AP courses and is held in May every year. Students are required to register in October-November before the exams.
The course and exams are designed by the committees of college faculty members and expert teachers to ensure that AP exams reflect college-level expectations.
How to register for AP?
Follow the steps to register for AP:
- Students need to create a College Board account online to register for the AP exam.
- Candidates have to pay the centers holding tests directly for the exams.
- After confirming the seat, students will get an admission ticket from the test center.
- Registration will be completed only after the student registers for the exam online and pays the test center.
NOTE: Students have to complete the online registration for the AP and pay for the test center in advance. If anyone fails to do any of these two would not be permitted to write the exam.
Advantages of AP Exam
Numerous universities extend the opportunity of giving credit or advanced placement to students who qualify the AP Exam scores of 3 and above. For instance, if a student has scored 4 in the English Language and Composition test, then he/she is permitted to skip the university’s English Language 101 course. It directly impacts the college’s tuition fee as fewer number of classes will help the student save more.
In some cases, students might also be permitted to skip the introductory course through qualifying AP Exam scores giving the student more free time to pursue a double major or get an internship or even complete their graduation early.
