Hydroponics is the art of growing plants in a nutrient solution in the absence of soil. Since the plant roots are exposed to a limited amount of the solution, there are chances that the concentrations of oxygen and other minerals in the plant roots would reduce. Therefore, in studies involving mineral nutrition using hydroponics, purification of water and nutrient salts is essential so as to maintain an optimum growth of the plants.

Based on this, what is the pattern of inheritance for familial hypercholesterolemia? Autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, or X-linked recessive? Familial hypercholesterolemia is one of the most common genetic disorders observed in people (approximately 1 in 20 adults in the US have this trait). Individuals with hypercholesterolemia have high levels of cholesterol in the blood. Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that is produced in the body and obtained from foods that come from animals. Familial hypercholesterolemia results in abnormal accumulation of cholesterol in tissues such as the skin, tendons, and arteries that supply blood to the heart (coronary arteries). A buildup of cholesterol in the walls of coronary arteries greatly increases a person's risk of having a heart attack. Individuals with this trait are associated with an increased risk of early heart disease, typically beginning in a person's forties or fifties. Mutations in the APOB, LDLR, LDLRAP1, or PCSK9 gene cause familial hypercholesterolemia. Genetic variations in the LDLR gene are among the most common. This gene provides instructions for making a protein called the low-density lipoprotein receptor. This receptor binds to particles called low-density lipoproteins (LDLs), which are the primary carriers of cholesterol in the blood. More than 2,000 mutations have been identified in this gene. Some of these genetic changes reduce the number of low-density lipoprotein receptors produced within cells. Other mutations disrupt the receptor's ability to remove LDLs from the blood. One SNP in the LDLR gene is rs879254747, which can be a C or a G. The SNP changes a Ser amino acid to a Cys amino acid in the coded protein. This gene is located on chromosome 19. One copy of the mutated gene will result in familial hypercholesterolemia.
