Which of the following schemes best represents how environmental cues are transduced to changes in a plant ?

A
Receptors receive environmental cues, a signal transduction pathway is initiated, there is an alteration in the particular genes that are transcribed and translated and a cellular response is generated.

B
Receptors are triggered, hormones are released, signal transduction pathways are initiated, there is an alteration in expression of genes and a cellular response is generated.

(d) Receptors receive environmental cues and trigger hormone release or a signal transduction pathway that involves hormones. The signal alters gene expression by altering genes which are transcribed and translated. Cellular response depends on expression of those genes.

Texts: Exercise 7: Selective and Differential Growth Medium and Tests 105 Although there is no test to detect 2,3 butanediol, the presence of its precursor, acetylmethyl carbinol acetoin, can be detected by the Voges-Proskauer test. In this test, Barritt's Reagents are added to the MR-VP broth (after incubation). The components of the Barritt's Reagents, naphthol and potassium hydroxide, react with the acetoin to yield products that produce a brick-red color. The formation of gases is also not detected in this test. PROCEDURE Organism tested: Lab 1: 1. Use a sterile inoculating loop to inoculate one tube of MR-VP broth. 2. Place the tube in the rack for incubation at 37°C for 2 to 5 days. Lab 2: 1. Obtain: a. A test tube containing a dropper for obtaining the sample of your organism. b. A small test tube for your sample. 2. Use the dropper to transfer 16 drops of the culture in the MR-VP broth to the small test tube. This tube will be used for the VP test. Be sure to have the test tubes in a stable rack. + Sterile technique is not required, but avoid contaminating your work area with your test organism. + The dropper should be placed immediately back into its holder tube since it is now contaminated. 3. The rest of the culture in the MR-VP broth tube will be used for the methyl red test. Voges-Proskauer Test: 1. To the small test tube containing the 16 drops of the culture grown in MR-VP broth, the instructor will add the following: 8 drops of Barritt's A reagent (α-naphthol) 8 drops of Barritt's B reagent (KOH) 2. Shake the small tube side to side (not up and down!) periodically for at least 20 minutes. Observe for the appearance of a brick-red color.
