Answer: DSolution: Ascus is a sporrangial sac peculiar to Ascomycetes. 4-8 haploid ascospores are produced internally in each ascus. The asci may occur freely or get aggregated with dikaryotic mycelium to form fructifications called ascocarps. Ascocarps are of many types : cup -like (apothecium, e.g., Peziza), flask- shaped (perithecium, e.g., Neurospora), elongated with a slit (hysterothecium) or closed (cleistothecium, e.g., Penicillium).
