Stomata open and close due to

A
circadian rhythm

B
genetic clock

C
pressure of gases inside the leaves

D
turgor pressure of guard cells

Text SolutionText solutionverified iconVerified

(d) Turgor pressure is the pressure that develops in a cell due to osmotic diffusion of water inside it and is responsible for pushing the membrane against cell wall. Stomata open under conditions of increased turgor pressure of guard cells and stomata gets closed under conditions of decreased turgor pressure of guard cells. When turgid, they swell and bend outward. As a result, the stomatal aperture opens. When they are flaccid, the tension from the wall is released and stomatal aperture closes.

Texts: Biology Lab Absorbance and Concentration data and graph with questions You measured the absorbance of the samples given to you by your instructor. The absorbance measurements are listed below from four experimental replicates: Absorbance Tube 1 Tube 2 Tube 3 0.57 0.39 0.28 Replicate 1 Replicate 2 0.96 0.41 0.35 Replicate 3 0.75 0.44 0.45 Replicate 4 0.68 0.43 0.53 11. Use the appropriate graph shown above to interpolate the concentration for the absorbances given in the table, and fill in the table below with this information, making sure to include units. After this, calculate the mean and standard deviation for each tube. You can Google "Statistics Calculator" to find several free online tools to do these calculations for you. Concentration Tube 1 Replicate Replicate 2 Replicate 3 Replicate 4 Mean Standard Deviation Tube 2 Tube 3 12. Graph the mean and standard deviation of the concentration of the samples below. Graph by hand as a bar graph to display the mean and standard deviation for each sample, and don't forget proper labeling. Remember that axis labels should indicate what is being shown, i.e. not labeled mean. Title: 13. What was the sample size for each tube? 14. Which tube had the highest concentration? 15. Which tube had the lowest variability? 16. What can you conclude about which tubes have different concentrations from the others (i.e. can you conclude that all three samples are different from each other, is there one sample that is different from the other two, or can you not conclude anything about whether the samples are different)? If needed, re-read the introduction for information about how to use error bars to draw conclusions about the differences between samples.
