Aeration and constant agitation in aeration tanks stimulate the growth of aerobic bacteria in primary effluent which in turn makes the activated sludge sediment in settlement tank. 
Methanobacterium is an anaerobic methanogenic bacteria which is found in rumen of cattle and helpful in the breakdown of cellulose.
Biogas is produced when bacteria digest organic matter (biomass) in the absence of oxygen.
Raw biogas typically consists of methane (50-75 %) carbon dioxide (25-50 %), and smaller amounts of nitrogen ( 2 - 8 % ) and trace levels of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia.
