Plasma membrane is a living entity, which encloses all living cells. Plasma membrane forms the boundary between living systems and the environment. Plasma membrane regulates both entry and exit of both solute and solvent between cell and the environment. With regards to permeability characteristics, plasma membrane can be permeable (allows free to and fro passage of both solute and solvent), impermeable (does not allows passage of solute or solvent), semi permeable (allows free passage of solvent), selectively permeable (allows solvent and selected solute particles to pass through).
