The gametes will then fertilize to form the zygote and the ovule will ripen to form the seed while the ovary will ripen to form the fruit. The seed serves the function of the protection of the embryo. Upon getting the favourable conditions, the seed will germinate to form a new plant. So, the main role of flowers is to produce offspring through sexual reproduction.
