[C] In ovoviviparous animals, the female retain the eggs inside its body after fertilisation and allows the development of the embryo inside the body without providing extra nourishment to the developing embryo as the placenta is absent. However, the female animals give birth to the young ones. Examples of ovoviviparous animals are sharks and rattle snakes.

eye and light rays from near objects ( metres) are diverging The refraction must be greater for the light the light rays need to be bent or refracted to focus on the retina. in nature. The work of refracting the light rays coming from near objects because they are already diverging present in the eye. The light rays in visible wavele by curved cornea, refracting eye lens and the humors the lens. This generates the potentials (impulses) ingth are focussed on the retina through the cornea and earlier, the photosensitive compounds (photopigm) in the rods and cones present in the retina. As mentioned protein) and retinal (an aldehyde of vitamin A). Similarly, the cone pigments in human eyes are composed of retinal and three different types of proteins (opsins) to which retinals are attached. However, when light falls on rods and cones, it causes dissociation of retinal from opsin. This results in changes in the structure of the opsin (remember this dissociation is a reversible phenomenon). This change in structure of opsin, causes membrane permeability changes. As a result, potential differences are generated in the photoreceptor cells, i.e., rods and cones. As the photoreceptor cells synapse with the bipolar cells, present in next layer, a signal is produced that generates action potentials in the bipolar cells also. Now bipolar cells synapse with the ganglion cells, so action potentials are generated in the ganglion cells through the bipolar cells. So we can summate that action potentials generated in the photoreceptor cells (due to breakdown of photopigments) are transmitted to the ganglion cells through the bipolar cells. Now we know that the axons of the retinal ganglion cells bundle together to form the optic nerve. So finally the action potentials (impulses) generated in the ganglion cells are transmitted through their axons, i.e., optic nerve to the visual cortex area of the brain.
