The elements which are needed by the plants to carry out normal physiological functions are called essential elements. 13 elements, are considered as essential elements. There are two types essential elements
1. Macronutrients or major elements: These elements are required by the plants in large quantities. They are Nitrogen, Pottasium, Phosphorous, Calcium, Sulphur, Magnesium.
2. Micronutrients or trace elements: The remaining 7 elements are required in small quantity. They are Iron, Zinc, Manganese, Copper, Molybdenum, Boron, Chlorine.
