NAME:____________________________ (10 points) During a particularly intellectually stimulating Exercise Science course, a student is inspired! Knowing the many cardiorespiratory, metabolic, and other health benefits of aerobic exercise, they have targeted a duathlon (running and cycling event) that is 3 months away, so your goal is to improve their fitness. Your task is to design the "initiation" phase (more on this to come later) of training that addresses both running and cycling to get their training in the right direction. Ensure that your prescription provides a work rate for running (mph) and cycling (watts). Show all work. They weigh 170 pounds and have a VO2max of 55 ml/kg/min. You tell them to train at 80% VO2R... What is their target VO2? (1 pt) What is their target running speed (mph) on a flat surface? (2 pts) What is their target work rate (watts) on the bike? (2 pts) How many kcals/min would they be expending at 80% VO2R? (1 pt) If they trained for 45 mins per session and trained 5 days per week – how many total kcals would they expend during their weekly training? (1 pt) Provide one activity that is in/around the home (including outside) for each intensity range (light, moderate, vigorous) that can help keep activity levels up when not training for the duathlon. Use the compendium of physical activities for this question, providing the intensity %, activity title, and MET level. (3 pts) Light: Moderate: Vigorous:
