Samara is an achenial fruit having winged pericarp, e.g. Ulmus (Elm). Achenial fruits are single seeded dry indehiscent and simple fruits. If the wings develop from places other than pericarp in achenial winged fruits then they are called samaroid e.g., sepals in Shorea.
