Cofactor may be inorganic or organic in nature. Organic cofactors are of two types, coenzymes and prosthetic groups. Coenzymes are easily separable non-protein organic cofactors. Prosthetic groups are non-protein organic cofactors firmly attached to apoenzymes (protein part of enzyme).
